April Newsletter

April is definitely a transmission month with a very successful Cross Country season now behind us; we now look forward to the road and track. No rest for Silson ladies team who headed up to the Midland relays this Saturday April 1st.

Inter Counties Cross Country Loughborough March 11th

Silson had Jake Storer and Julie Ann Hammond competing for Northants, in this extremely tough event. A hard overnight frost quickly thawed to produce a very sticky course. Julie completed the 8km course in 248th position, scoring good points for the Northants ladies team. In the under 20’s race Jake ran 10km, crossing the line 156th, helping his team to 22nd position. The highest placed Northants team.

Chester 10k Sunday March 12th

I ran in an England vest for the first time: representing the country in an international competition at the Chester 10k. Having gone out hard, I was sub 19 mins at 5k and was going strong until the last mile or so, when fatigue really kicked in. Nevertheless, I crossed the line in 39:14 – a huge pb of 30 seconds. In the match, the England Team beat the Welsh; I came 4th in my age category and 23 / 1389 in the race! Thrilled doesn’t describe how I felt.

The English Schools Nottingham Saturday 18th March

It takes 4 rounds of cross country racing to secure a place in the finals of the English Schools. Imogen Lancaster had to battle all the way and deserved her place at Nottingham. The backdrop of Wollaton Hall and a very good parkland course made for an excellent event. After a difficult start Imogen ran a very good race, moving through the field finishing 282nd from 336 inter girls.

Oakley 20 Bedford Sunday March 26th

Six Silson runners completed the Oakley 20 mile road race in very rainy conditions on an undulating course just outside Bedford. First home for Silson was Simon Storer 2.19.21 (22nd) followed by Paul Holmes 2.30.43 (46th). Lizzie Phipps in 2.31.50 (50th), Hannah St Ledger Harris in 2.32.27 (53rd), Toby Heley 2.35.39 (66th) and Richard Popiel 2.49.28 (132nd). A special well done to Simon and Hannah for coming 3rd in their respective age categories and for Lizzie who broke the womens 20 mile club record.
