March was a quiet month for the Silson, so we have an inter counties report and Silverstone 10k update. Good luck to our Manchester Marathon Runners on Sunday April 14th and to the London Marathoners on April 21st. A couple of late reports have come in as our runners prepare for their marathons.
CAU Inter Counties Cross Country Saturday 9th March Nottingham
After a very wet week the Wollaton Park course had dried out amazingly well, recording some fast times. Just two qualifiers from Silson and a reserve. With Helen Heley the only runner, Julie Hammond missing out through injury. Helen ran a strong race crossing the line 194th from 257 senior ladies. Helping the Northants team was a creditable 26th overall position.
Silverstone 10k Wednesday May 1st (update)
Entries have now closed for the 2024 Silverstone 10k, with the 1500 limit reached more than 6 weeks ahead of race day. We also have a healthy 67 members helping with the event. If you are able to help and not yet contact Greg Ball silsonmembership@gmail.com The more helpers we have the stronger race we can deliver. We have quite a number of the race teams from Silverstone Motor Racing and the circuits chief executive Stuart Pringle competing this year.
Oakley 20 Sunday March 24th
Five Silson runners were greeted with favourable conditions for this annual race. The Bedfordshire course is not that easy, with several testing hills. In 42nd place was Simon Storer 2.21. 47 claiming 2nd vet 55 prize. Paul Holmes next Silson to cross the line in 2.31.23 followed by Toby Heley 102nd in 2.37.32. Sam Snell was paced by Richard Popiel both timed at 3.23.31.

Banbury 15 Sunday March 24th
Simon Woodward rolled back the years coming in 18th in the excellent time of 1.40.08, claiming the first 50 prize. At the other end of the scale young James Spencer can be pleased with 42nd position and a time of 1.50.33.

Training
Training continues on Wednesday evenings 6.30pm at Silverstone Circuit. The first Friday evening at Stowe Athletics track being Friday April 19th 6.30pm.
