Silson Club Cross Country - Saturday October 4th

ree

If we are going to start our league cross country season with momentum the club cross country is a very important race. The course at Brackley lane is not an easy one, made even more difficult with Storm Amy doing her thing.

We returned to handicap format allowing the less strong runners a chance to win trophies / medals. This worked well with both races well supported, and for the most part resulting in winners who do not usually picking up awards.

In the ladies race it was good to see a determined Rosemary Heley heading the field. Rosemary was awarded the junior prize, giving Madeleine Moutrie the ladies cup, who edged out Rachael Gardner on the run to the finish. Fiona Storer picked up a well-deserved bronze medal.

Alfie Long made his trip from London worthwhile as he retained the men’s trophy for a second year. Simon Storer took silver with Matt Elliott deservedly holding off Steve Wareham for third place.

All the runners were excellent, everyone ready at the start line for their allocated start times. It was not easy to set up the course and stage the event, let alone run the race!!!

Well done to all the runners in very windy conditions. Also, a big thank you to the marshals and officials without you the event would not have been able to go ahead

Chiltern League Cross Country Verulamium Park St Albans - Saturday October 11th

ree

Silson travelled to Hertfordshire in good numbers with twenty-four members taking part, making an excellent start to the 2025/2026 cross country league season. On an undulating course in this historic park, not used by the Chiltern League for many years.

It is expected Buckingham & Stowe will be our main rivals for the forthcoming season. Silson certainly made a statement heading the league 2 table with an impressive 939 points, leaving Buckingham well adrift in second place.

In the ladies race normal service was resumed with Helen Heley and Julie-Ann Hammond to the fore. But newcomer Izzy Hodgson closely followed, winning good league points for Silson.

The men’s team packed well, to come away with a very good result. Leading the way was Richard Francis, with Mark Conway in pursuit. After a long spell away from the club a returning Steve Lincoln was next across the line. To boost a strong Silson team performance.

All the Silson runners contributed to a very good day for the club.

And finally...

We're having a Party!

To celebrate a fantastic year of running achievements, the Silson AC Awards Night & Party will be on Friday 28th November from 7pm at the SRA in Silverstone.

Everyone is welcome: members, previous members, family & friends.

There will be food, music and lots of lovely trophies! The evening is free to members and £10 per head for adult non-members.

We need an idea of numbers for food and to ensure we have enough people to go ahead, so please let us know you are coming and if you have any dietary requirements.
