April Newsletter

Updated: Apr 30, 2022

We have a variety of races to report for our April newsletter and some dates to look forward to, as we make the change from the cross country season to road and track. Thank you for submitting your race reports, that’s what we are looking for. Humphrey’s report was following his National Cross Country in February.

English National Cross Country, Parliament Hill Fields, London, Saturday 26th February

Humphrey Marten ploughed through 12 kilometres of North London mud for 1hr 31 minutes to complete the very popular National Cross Country Championships. There were 2089 finishers in the men’s race; Humphrey finished 2068, with many failing to complete the gruelling course.

CAU Inter Counties Cross Country Championships, Prestwold Hall Loughborough, Saturday 12th March

After the recent rainy spell, the Prestwold Hall course was remarkably good underfoot. Four Silson members stepped up and represented Northants very well. Helen Heley and Julie Hammond were again closely matched, leading the Northants Ladies team to an excellent 26th place. Helen finished 228th with Julie 12 places and 37 seconds behind. Amy Harris finished strongly, crossing the line as 2nd Northants U/17 lady. Completing the Silson quartet was Georgia Corcoran, pacing herself excellently to finish 124th in the very competitive under 20 ladies race.

Milton Keynes Festival of Running, Sunday 13th March

20 Mile

As preparations continued for April’s Manchester Marathon, the Milton Keynes 20 was next up for 3 Silson runners. Runners were met by blustery conditions around the MK Redways. A close race ensued between Jim Darcy and Simon Storer, with only 5 places separating the two. Jim was 42nd in 2.19.20 with Simon 47th timing 2.21.09. Toby Heley completed the course 2.45.18 crossing the line 129th.

Half Marathon

Karen Teago was delighted with her half marathon, with a time 2.06.50.

Looking ahead

Monday 9th May is the date now secured for our Silverstone 10k race. We need all Silson members and supporters to volunteer on the night. If you can help in the run up to the event, the committee would love to hear from you too. We will be accessing the track from 4pm to start the set up, but appreciate that some of you won’t be available until after work. Please let Helen (silsonchairperson.gmail.com) know your availability and then we can start co-ordinating the volunteer roles. The race is part of the EMGP road race series, but we request members volunteer rather than enter the race.
