November Newsletter



The cross country season is now underway, with 2 important fixtures to report in this newsletter. First up was the club cross country which provided a test ahead of the opening Chiltern League fixture. The result at Keysoe was excellent with Silson finishing 13th out of the 16 Division 1 teams. The curtain came down on the Northants road running season with the Rugby 10 on October 8th.


Silson Club Cross Country Abthorpe Saturday October 7th

Thanks go to the Hinton family for allowing us to use their testing farmland as a warm up for our cross country season. Running really well to win their categoeries were Mark Conway, Julie Hammond and Imogen Lancaster juniors. All will have taken confidence from this into the following Saturday’s league race. Senior Men 1st Mark Conway, 2nd Alfie Long, 3rd Chris Coughlan, 4th Toby Heley, 5th Douglas Gray, 6th Simon Storer, 7th James Spencer, 8th Richard Popiel, 9th Darren Knight, 10th Charlie Purr, 11th Humphrey Marten. Senior Ladies 1st Julie Hammond, 2nd Sue Torrance, 3rd Kim Froggitt, 4th Fiona Storer. Juniors 1st Imogen Lancaster, 2nd Sophie Clark.


Rugby 10 Sunday October 8th

With the Daventry 10k cancelled, the Rugby 10 miler was the last race in the Northants road running league. Six Silson runners tackled the hot and hilly course from Barby Cricket Club. Simon Woodward was first Silson male with Helen Heley leading Silson ladies. To date the final league standings, have not been published. Results 34th Simon Woodward 67.07, 61st Darren Knight 71.02, 73rd Toby Heley 73.29, 74th Helen Heley 73.34, 128th Emma Chapple-Hyam 84.40, 161st Kim Froggitt 95.03


Chiltern Cross Country League Keysoe Saturday October 14th

Twenty nine Silson runners crossed the line at the first Chiltern League fixture of the season in Befordshire. This statistic was key to a very good result, as the club returned to Division 1. No need to mention individuals this was an all round team performance, where everyone played their part. These levels will need to be maintained throughout the season. Next up is Teardrop Lakes, Milton Keynes, our local race.

Senior Women 26th Julie Hammond, 32nd Helen Heley, 43rd Imogen Lancaster, 56th Emma Chapple-Hyam, 102nd Sue Torrance, 116th Kim Froggitt, 121st Sophie Clark, 126th Sally Stephens 129th Marina Lister, 130th Fiona Storer, 137th Eleanor Rees, Rachel Prior and Jayne Cooper also ran for Silson as guests.
