September Newsletter

After a brief pause in club activities, we return preparing for the forthcoming Cross Country season. As there was no August Newsletter, below are reports on the conclusion of the East Midlands Grand Prix Series. Individually Silson had 8 age group runners finish the series in the top 10. Included in the fixtures this month are the Midland Relays, Northampton Half Marathon and the Silson Club Cross Country.

Corby 5 Wednesday July 3rd EMGP

A long midweek trek to Corby did not deter a good turnout of Silson runners. Ten of our athletes competed over the undulating East Carlton Park course. Riding high in their individual age rankings Jayne Cooper 167th and Sue Torrance 171st were closely matched. Results 67th Helen Heley 33.16, 75th Toby Heley 33.57, 98th Darren Knight 35.31, 111th Richard Popiel 36.13, 139th Michael Spencer 38.57, 149th Emma Chappel Hyam 39.56, 155th Simon Woodward 40.24, 167th Jayne Cooper 41.19, 171st Sue Torrance 41.58, 184th Dave Jarrett 43.19

Milton Keynes 10k Tuesday July 9th

Again we had 10 runners at Milton Keynes. A flat course along the redways, not always producing the fastest times. Dave Jarrett 291st and Sarah De Boer 307th continued to run well in the series. Wellingborough 5 Sunday July 14th 

The Wellingborough 5 is a Northants Road Running League race. Starting at the Old Grammarians Sports Club out and around Mears Ashby. Five from Silson took part in the event, over the relatively flat course. Results 56th Darren Knight 33.29, 106th Jayne Cooper 38.46, 128th Rob Pardon 41.59, 130 Sue Torrance 42.09, 138th Madeleine Moutrie 43.26

Rugby 6 Wednesday July 17th

This is the last race in the East Midlands series of road races. Athletes with interest in the individual standings are most likely to take part. This proved to be the case for Silson with 4 all in the top ten of their age groups. Results 81st Helen Heley 39.40, 98th Darren Knight 41.18, 194th Jayne Cooper 49.08, 241st Sarah De Boer 55.15

There is a lot of work goes into this event, Ben Hinton has to clear his fields of stock. The course is fully marked, taped and marshalled. Please support the event by running or come along and marshal.

Training

We have returned to Wednesday training at Towcester Watermeadows, with Winter Hills Silverstone the venue for Sept 18th & 25th.

Saturday Winter Track Training returns to Stowe School on September 14th 10.30am - 12pm
